Dre Terrel & Bradley Goodapple of Bartonville
Dre
Terrel is pictured here with his Grandpa, Bradley Goodapple. Dre started hunting
white tail deer in Missouri when he was just 9 years old.
Dre used a Lever Action 30-30 Riffle to kill his first two deer and a Remington
270 caliber to kill his next deer in the Missouri Youth Season.
All five Missouri deer where 8 point bucks.

The 2nd
picture shows Dre with his first Illinois white tail,
a Big 8 Pointer killed in Peoria County the 2nd season of 2009.
Dre
saved his own money to have this deer mounted by
Hammerich's Taxidermy in Glasford and he was also looking forward
to killing his first turkey last weekend in Missouri.

Justin Foutch of Cuba
It was Sunday, January 3rd, the
last day-
of the third deer shotgun season(anterless only),
and it was almost last legal hunting light.
My girlfriend and I were set up on a cut bean field next to a pond.
Finally, a doe(the first deer we had seen all week) came across the dam in front
of us.
Being Jodi's first season, she got first dibs, so she got ready, aimed,
pulled the trigger, and made a great shot with the deer going down just within
sight.
Both of us we're pretty excited, especially her.
Then, I looked to my left and another doe had started down the same trail as the
one she had just shot. I got ready, took aim and fired.
The deer ran off only to go down after about thirty yards.

Adam Leman of Eureka
This is a photo of the buck I shot
Saturday, November 14th.
It was one of six bucks I saw that morning while bowhunting.
Getting a deer was a great plus to the beautiful morning.
I enjoy all types of hunting and fishing
and am looking forward to shotgun season this weekend.

Beth Coers and family of Minier
This is a picture of my son Zachary Dailey.
He caught this fish and many more just like it at a farm pond
owned by his great-great-uncle located outside of Tremont.
Zachary and his two older brothers,
Addison and Jeremiah, started fishing
when they were very, very young
at the pond behind our house.
All the boys enjoy hunting deer, goose and ducks as well.

Elle Arvin of Congerville
My
Dad, brothers, and I went fishing this past Sunday.
I'm 11 years old and my brothers said I didn't know how to fish since I am a
girl.
Showed them!
This whole stringer was caught in less than two hours.
Most of them I caught, and I caught the biggest.
We were at a small farm pond close to where we live in Congerville.

Elva Joseph-Jones of Tremont
My Dad, Uncle, Sister, and I were camping
an hour north of Rampart, Alaska.
We were collecting drift wood to build a raft about 18 feet by 24 feet.
This raft would keep my uncle and his family warm for the winter.
During the raft construction,
Dad was looking for a bull moose to knock down but ran into a black bear
instead.
While we were working on the raft,
the black bear raided our camp site and ate all our fresh food.
Of course he left the can of spam!
That night when we were sleeping, the black bear came back for seconds.
My Uncle had to shoot it because it was right outside our tent.
I’ll never forget my sister hiding under the sleeping bag cussing like a
sailor.
On the same trip, we hunted ducks, geese,
and ate lots of salmon.
I learned how to snap a ducks neck, field dress it, and cook it over the
fire.
I’m still upset that I didn’t knock down a bull moose. Next time!
Carol Oary of Creve Coeur
My husband and I were fishing at
Bartonville. The fish weren't biting and it started pouring rain. So I sat
in the car and cast out. All at once I felt a tug and thought I had snugged up.
So I kept pulling my line in and on the the other end was an eight pound cat
fish. My husband was soaked but I was nice and dry and very happy!
Nita Marriott of Peoria
The first time my husband Bill took me to
Canada on a fishing trip he took me to
Secret Lake one day. Going to Secret Lake requires boating across a couple
of lakes
and beaching your boat, carry a small motor with you along with your fishing
gear
and trekking about one mile up over a hill and through the woods to “Secret
Lake”.
What a beautiful little lake it was. We got a “borrowed” boat in the water,
mounted the motor and started fishing. It was beautiful and serene.
All of a sudden I “snagged” a log. I said I was snagged and all of a
sudden,
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzing went my line. Bill laughed and said “ you got a big
Northern”.
Well I worked him to the boat and finally landed him.
Wow, he was almost as long as me.
We got a picture and, of course, put him back in the water. How fun.
Same lake,
a while later. Remember I said “serene”.
All of a sudden I heard something, A voice. Wow is God talking to us.
I turned around to Bill and asked, what was that?
We listened close and this voice from a distance says
“ Do you have any Grey Poupon”? I’m again saying what is that?
Bill started laughing and answers, Hell no.
The voice yells, well how am I going to eat my sandwich.
By then we spotted a friend of Bill’s who had seen our boat and walked over
to visit.
Again, how fun is that. Even out in the boonies you run into fun people.

Abby, John, Gavin and Emma Worley of East Peoria
The
Worley Family of East
Peoria
recently took their son Gavin fishing at Powerton Lake.
Abby Worley says this is one of her sons many spots where he enjoys
fishing.
She says Gavin loves to fish and would every minute of the day
if they would allow it.
Gavin really enjoys catching large fish but as we all know
around Illinois this is getting much harder to accomplish.
Abby adds it always seems like Gavin manages
to yank one out from every fishing trip they take.
For a 9 year old, his mom says he has a lot of patience
when it comes to waiting for
the big one!!
His favorite bait to use is Raw shrimp, stink bait, worms and jigs
all of which Gavin is very successful at using.

Corey, Jenny and Maddy Huff of
Metamora
The Huff family enjoys fishing all over Central Illinois but they especially
love fishing
on the pond at Jenny's Moms and Step-Dads home in rural Lacon.
Corey likes to try his hand at bass fishing using worms and lures
while Jenny & Maddy like to hook blue gill & bass with wax worms and night crawlers.
Congratulations to the Huff
family!
And each week for being our official Anglers of the Week
winners will receive a $50 gift card to a Peoria area restaurant.

Drew Schultz and family of Peoria Heights
This day of fishing was an extra special one for little
Priscilla & Drewy Schultz
for they caught their first fish ever!
Using night crawlers while fishing at Eureka Lake,
Priscilla hooked a little blue gill and Drewy a baby bass.
Congrats to the Schultz family!

Mike Toolhill of Bloomington
After a long day at work walking through
pollinating corn,
Mike Toolhill decided to try his luck at fishing
on his way home from work last week.
Mike says he had his monster of a fish hooked from the start, but the real sight
was him sliding down the steep 10 foot bank full itch weed
trying to get his catch out of the water.
Mike's carp weighed about 10 pound and was caught in the Kickapoo Creek west of
Downs with a worm while bottom fishing.
Congratulations to Mike!
